Initial Thoughts

I am always skeptical when reviewing bikes under £1000 as this is the end of the market where there is a plethora of cheap and nasty electric bikes that look shiny, but will fail on you after a few months of use.

However, I have followed Ancheer for a while now and have been pretty impressed with the range of electric bikes they offer at this price point and their online owner reviews have overall been positive, this model being no exception.

Sure, you are not getting top quality components here, but for under £800 you are getting a solid little commuter bike which could be a perfect option as your first ebike if you want to start commuting into the office a few times a week.

It looks OK too and I like how they have hidden the battery inside the frame ( which can be removed and locked) which makes this bike look very similar to a traditional fold -up.

Riding Position, Comfort And Controls

Ancheer Folding Electric Bike Reviews

Riding Position – Like Most Electric Folding Bikes the Ancheer 20″ is an upright riding position suitable for the city riders and has plenty of adjustment in the saddle and on the handlebar stem. I have seen reviews from owners who are 5ft that seem to think this bike can be adjusted to size – Good to know if you have short legs.

Comfort – This Ebike has suspension forks on the front, Disc Brakes front and Rear which is good to see as I firmly believe ALL Electric bikes should have disc brakes as standard due to the extra weight of these bikes, however these are cable not hydraulic, but should still be fine for this type of bike.

Although I’m not a fan of the graphics on the saddle, it does have a wide seat pan so would be fine for short- trips and is correct for this type of riding style. If you can’t live with the ‘go faster’ stripes then there are loads of other saddle options out there to choose from, or you could use a cover, but it’s a minor bug-bear.

Controls – The Ancheer 20″ Electric Folding bike has 3 levels of assistance which can be changed while riding and has a top speed of 25kmh (15mph legal limit in the EU).

Low Assist = Good if you want to keep fit and extends battery range when you are on the flats

Medium Assist = Mid- Range assistance is where you will spend most of your time, just the right balance to compliment your pedaling

High Assist =  High Levels of assistance will make light work of the hills, but be warned, will eat your battery and reduce range if used for long periods of time

This bike comes with 7 gears and which gives the riders options as to their pedaling cadence Vs the assist level they are in which I prefer. On some of these bikes they stick to a single gear and rely on the rider to adjust the assistance which in my view reduces battery life and just limits the riding experience.

Battery & Range

Ancheer Folding Electric Bike Reviews

What I like about this model is that the battery can be charged on or off the bike, and is hidden inside the frame which can also be locked for extra security.

Charging time is 4 – 6 hours and the bike has a range of between 15 -30 miles on a single charge.

As mentioned on many occasions in my reviews, this depends on weight, Assistance and weather so I think the range advertised (15 – 30 miles) looks about right and you should be able to squeeze 25 Mile out of it on a single charge using sensible levels of assistance.

This model claims to be ‘Hybrid’ meaning it can be used both on and off-road, however I would say it is better suited to paved surfaces with maybe the odd light off-road trail I’m sure it could cope as it does have ‘Gravel’ Tires for extra grip on these types of terrain.

Is It Value For Money?

Ancheer Folding Electric Bike Reviews

In my view, yes, this Ancheer 20″ Electric Folding bike is good value for money if you are looking for an entry level ebike for under £800, considering also that it comes equipped for the daily commute.

Yes, it’s heavy so the ‘Folding’ aspect is more for storage than carrying around but it will fit in the boot of your car so could be popular with holiday makers as well.

  1. Thank you so much for this informative review over this folding electric bike.  I actually find this bike kind of fascinating, because it can fold up, and I have never seen something like that personally.  I actually like this bike, even though it is kind of cheap.  I like that it can fold up, but also i love how the battery can charge inside or out of the bike, and I like that it can go up to 30 miles per full charge!

  3. Out here in California, I don’t see too many electric bikes around, but they look pretty cool. If I was younger and exercised a lot, then having one of these electric bikes would be a good thing for me. I picture someone riding this type of bike in races or through the mountains on on a lengthy mountain road. I can see someone giving an electric bike to their teenage son for a graduation gift.

    • Hi, thanks for your comments – Electric bikes have become more popular among senior riders who may have previously avoided cycling due to fitness or mobility so if you get a chance I would strongly reccomend giving one a try. They are great fun whatever your age.
