Craft Cadence Top Tube bag Review

Here is my tried and tested Craft Cadence Top Tube Bag Review of their 1.5ltr Waterproof frame bag.

Behind every decent bag there is usually a great story – Craft Cadence was formed by a group of London bike commuters who knew there was a gap in the market for bike commuter products that lacked quality and rider experience.

They have since launched several commuter products which have grown in popularity so when they asked me to look at their Top Tube bag I was only to pleased to oblige and intrigued to see whether the hype matched the quality of their products

Craft Cadence have a direct to consumer business model, ship anywhere in the world and as you will see in this review have included some very cool innovations to what is considered to be a Relatively small simple frame bag.

So without further ado, here is my full review of the Craft Cadence Top Tube Bag 1.5ltr – Enjoy!

(I do not do paid reviews, everything here is based on my own experience and I will only recommend top quality products)

Out of the Box – First Impressions
Craft cadence top tube bag review

The bag arrived in a plastic bag, no fuss and straight out of the packaging I thought the bag looked very cool.

There were no instructions, pretty straight forward to attach these things to the bike, but for others this may have been useful.

It was also good to see the logo and text on each side of the bag were reflective and were proportionate in size.

Design & Innovation

So what separates the Craft Cadence top tube bag from some other bags out there in the market?

Well for starters it has a magnetic flap to fasten the top rather than a zip which nobody else has done.

When riding the bike I did find this much easier to access the bag and did not have to take my eyes off the road to find the zip.

This is thoughtful design alongside the small headphone charger outlet positioned at the front of the bag so you can charge a phone (If you have this on your handlebars) or thread your headphones through it if your phone is in the bag itself.

Storage and Compartments

The Craft Cadence Top Tube bag comes with 1.5 litres of storage, so its main purpose is a handy place to stash things like a wallet, gum, keys and maybe some snacks while you are riding.

Inside they have tried to maximize this space by just including a small pocket with a zipper for maybe a travel/ credit card.

There are no external pockets or storage on the bag

Is it Waterproof?Craft Cadence Top Tube Bag Review

The Craft Cadence Top Tube Bag is fully waterproof and I have managed to test this on a few downpours into central London.

Everything was bone dry inside and I have been impressed so far.

I was concerned about the small outlet on the front for the charger wise to be fed through but this was fine also due there being a small ‘hood’ just above the hole.

Setup and Ease of use

Attaching this top tube bag to the frame was very easy. There are 3 adjustable Velcro straps, one that fastens around the stem and the other two go around the top tube.

Once fastened the bag feels very secure and did not feel like it was

going to move very easily when riding and this was the case when road tested over various terrain including some woodland trails.

What’s It Like On The Bike?

The Craft Cadence Top Tube bag looks great on the bike and has a nice profile with an angled top that matches the profile of the frame.

In my view this does make the bag look more at home when attached to the bike Vs some ‘Gas Tank’ style top tube bags out there.

On the road test the bag performed well with no movement at all, tested off the curbs and over some woodland terrain, I did not experience any issues.

When riding the bike sometimes with top tube bags if you drop off the saddle (Stopping at lights etc) they can get in the way but this was not the case here.

Cool Features

For me the best feature on this bag has to be the top flap. I have not seen this before and it makes total sense. There is a magnet and some Velcro to make sure it does not come undone when riding, even with strong winds but more importantly it just makes things easier for the rider which is a huge selling point.

Having a cable outlet is very useful, especially if you carry a power bank as you can feed the wire through the hole and charge your phone when riding. I also used this for some headphones but hopefully will be upgrading to some Bluetooth versions soon!

There is a small magnet with a Velcro patch as shown here which is all that is required to keep the flap shut.

Another very cool feature on this bag is the ability to attach a cycle computer to the top of it, however I do think most people will be using their phones so this was not a feature I was utilizing or would it have been a reason for me to purchase this product.

There are still plenty of cyclists out there who do use cycle computers so still a very thoughtful and handy place to attach if needed.

Cons:

  • Cant find any yet

Similar Product Comparison

After reviewing similar quality top tube bags, it’s the small details that can make a huge difference to the riders overall experience so the fairest comparison would be Two Wheel Gears Commute Top Tube Pack.

Craft Cadence Top Tube Bag Review

Both are great quality and designed with the rider in mind, however the clear distinction between these two bags is how they are fastened. Craft Cadence have created a zip less bag and there is nothing else out there like this ( that I could see) which gives them a competitive edge as this is a great feature.

Price wise there is not much difference ( Around £40/ $50) so it’s really down to user preference but either of these bags are well worth the money in my view.

Final Thoughts – Craft Cadence Top Tube Bag

The story behind how Craft Cadence began -( a group of like-minded commuters) does resonate with me as a London bike commuter and You can clearly see the thought and care they have put into the design to create something different that really enhances the rider experience.

I would highly recommend the Craft Cadence Top Tube bag which I guarantee will provide bags of convenience when on your ride that looks very cool as well.

  1. This bag looks very cool. I have never had one on my bike before, instead, I only had a water bottle. I have had the flat rack on the back to hold a bag or a basket on the handlebars but never this.

WHen I use to ride for long distances I use to wish I had a bag like this to hold small tools for minor bike maintenance. I usually just kept everything in my pockets.

I like the option to put in on the front and/or rear of the bike. This way I could carry tools for inner tube replacement and store any valuables on the bike.

    • Hi Alex, sounds like this Craft Cadence Top Tube Bag could make life much easier for you – just to confirm the bag can only go on the top tube near the stem 👍 it can’t go under the saddle – thats a saddle bag which you can read about here.

  2. Having a bag like this attached to your bike makes life a lot easier and above all safer for the rider.

Living in the UK you get plenty of rain so the fact it is totally waterproof is a great selling feature.

I also like the reflective logo and the size of the bag.

The product looks very well made and comes in at a great price.

This is a must-have for any serious cyclist!

    • Thanks for your comments Lisa, agree that over here in the UK being waterproof is a must and this bag certainly keeps the water out.
